30th Oct, 2011, Kuala Lumpur-- The heavy rain and thunderstorm stopped its wrath 15 minutes before the Eco Film Fest awards ceremony started last Sunday.
The awards ceremony was held at the nation's heritage building the Tunku Chancellor Hall in University Malaya.
The annual event was attended by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) of University Malaya, Professor Dr. Hamzah Hj Abdul Rahman; Secretary General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), Datuk Zoal Azha Yusof; Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Green Technology, Energy and Water, Tuan Haji Badaruddin bin Mahyudin; Chief Editor of Natural Health (the official media partner of the Eco Film Fest), Mr Thiagarajan Doraisamy; Assoc Prof Dr Aziz Abdul Rahman, Head of UMCares; and representatives from sponsors and partners.
An eco fashion show by the finalists of Anugerah Hijau surprised the audience. All the models wore fashion design that were made by the youths who are the finalists of a nationwide green competition on sustainable fashion. See more pictures here.
This was followed by a mesmerizing and heart warming theatre performance by Tree Theatre Group.
This year the Eco Film Festival awarded four films in four categories: Best International Film, Best Malaysian Film, Best Young Film makers' Award (for any director below 25 years of age), and Jury Award.
The winners for the 2011 Eco Film Fest are:
BEST INTERNATIONAL FILM - THERE ONCE WAS AN ISLAND : TE HENUE E NNOHO (DIRECTED BY BRIAR MARCH)
BEST MALAYSIAN FILM - ON BORROWED TIME (PRODUCED BY WWF MALAYSIA AND TRAFRIC-SEA)
BEST YOUNG FILM MAKERS' AWARD - IS THIS ALL REALLY WORTH IT? (DIRECTED BY YAP SHU JUIN)
JURY AWARD - FOSTER OUR FOREST (DIRECTED BY FEDYA)
The Best International Film winner walks away with a Rm5000 cash prize, a customized pewter trophy, and some green hampers. The Best Malaysia Film winner walks away with Rm3000 in cash prize, a customized pewter trophy and also some green hampers.

The Best Young Film maker's Award receiveds at RM1000 cash prize, with trophy and hampers while the Jury Award winner receives RM500 in cash prize, a trophy and also hampers.
